I can’t believe we’ve been back from Italy for 3 weeks now. I swear it feels like so much longer. It was honestly such an amazing trip. Between the food, wine, culture, history, SHOPPING and exploring- everything was absolutely awesome. Sorry for being a bit MIA again, to be completely honest, over the last couple of months I have been dealing with some personal issues and I hope to share my story with you guys soon. Let’s just say this trip couldn’t have come at a better time and it couldn’t have been any better.
We started the first part of our Italy adventure in Rome. We took a night flight and made it into Rome at about 12:20PM on a Saturday. We got to our hotel which was called The Inn at the Spanish Steps. It was perfect location for all the AMAZING shopping spots but also once you walk out of the hotel and take 5 steps you are literally at the Spanish Steps. If you don’t know, the Spanish Steps are a set of steps in Rome, a tourist attraction, climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. The architecture was unreal. My best friend and her husband actually got to Rome the same day we did so we got lucky enough to spend the day with them and then had dinner. We walked around the city had some unbelievable lunch and wine and then walked to the Trevi Fountain ( yup I definitely made a wish). No trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Fontana di Trevi, also known as Trevi Fountain. Located in the Quirinale district of Rome, the Trevi Fountain is known as one of the most stunning fountains in the world. It’s also one of the oldest water sources in Rome.
That night we enjoyed dinner at a locals restaurant called Il Falchetto, it was a ten minute walk from our hotel. They had a bunch of different Italian and Roman dishes with a wide range menu and wine list. I love family ran restaurants because you can really feel the love in the food.
Second day we continued touring the beautiful city of Rome. We also stopped and did some shopping. I LOVE shopping at Zara in general but I love it even more when you’re in a different country because they have other items and unique pieces that you wouldn’t usually find in the US. The second night before dinner we went over to the Hotel Eden which is absolutely STUNNING!!! We wanted to stay there but the price a night was a bit more than what we wanted to spend on a hotel. This hotel and it’s rooftop views are impeccable. Someone recommended we check it out when the sun was setting which is exactly what we did. We went for a drink and then had dinner at another local spot called Ristorante Tullio. This was also a recommendation from a family friend who lived in Rome for some time. I highly suggest trying this place out!
On the last day we had a private guide for The Vatican. WOW. The ceilings were my favorite of it all. So unique and intricate with detail. That and the Colosseum was definitely the highlight of our trip in Rome. To think that all of these historical monuments and buildings were built so many years ago with such simple equipment is unreal. I mean the fact that these places are still standing today is unbelievable. I honestly think everyone should visit Rome once in their lifetime.
Stay tuned for the next part of my Travel Guide which will include the rest of our stops in Italy and a ton more photos from our trip.
